A couples weekend on the Causeway Coast: how to spend two nights at Tír Hollow

A couple in a private hot tub at Tír Hollow Retreat watching the sun set behind Binevenagh mountain

A couples weekend on the Causeway Coast is best spent slow, and Tír Hollow is built for exactly that. Two nights is the sweet spot: long enough to switch off properly, short enough to feel like a real treat. Here is how we would spend it, from check-in to the last morning.

Where to stay for two

For a couple, we would pick the Oak cave or one of the turnaround houses. Oak is the cosiest room on site, set into the mountain and built for two. A turnaround house gives you the rare trick of a room that rotates a full 360 degrees to follow the view. Either way you get a private hot tub and fire pit, which is most of the weekend sorted.

Friday evening: arrive and do nothing

Check in, unpack nothing, and head straight for the hot tub. Light the fire pit as the sun drops behind Binevenagh. The water in the taps is spring water off the mountain, the forest is dead quiet, and the point of the night is to do absolutely nothing. Bring something to cook on the BBQ and let the evening stretch.

Saturday: lakes, forest, then the coast

Start by the water. The two spring-fed lakes are stocked with rainbow trout and open to fly or bait fishing, even for beginners. Our fishing page covers the rod licence you need first. Spend the afternoon on the coast: the Giant's Causeway is an easy drive east, and Binevenagh's Gortmore viewpoint is minutes away for one of the finest views in the country. Our Causeway Coast guide maps the rest.

Sunday: a slow last morning

No rush. Walk the forest, take the Kubota buggy round the farm trails, then one last soak before you go. The whole idea of Tír Hollow is that you leave feeling like you actually got away, not like you ran a checklist.
