Fishing on two spring-fed trout lakes at Tír Hollow Retreat

Fly fish or bait fish for rainbow trout across two spring-fed lakes that frame the accommodation — whether you take it seriously or just want a few quiet hours by the water. The lakes are fed by spring water off Binevenagh, so the water is clean and cold, and the fishing sits right outside your door if you stay in the caves.

What you can fish for

Rainbow trout, fly or bait

The lakes are stocked with rainbow trout, and fly fishing and bait fishing are both welcome, so bring your method of choice. Mornings are quiet, the light is good, and the only company is the forest and the mountain — fishing as part of a retreat, not a queue at a busy commercial pond.

Sort your rod licence before you travel

To fish for trout in Northern Ireland you legally need a DAERA game rod licence. It covers the rod; a separate permit or day ticket covers the specific water. A licence from England, Scotland, Wales or the Republic of Ireland does not cover you here, so buy the right one online in advance — we will point you to the rest when you book. See the official guidance.

A base built for anglers

Stay in Hazel or Pine for a full self-catering base a few steps from the bank, or Oak for a cosier couples version. The turnaround houses put a rotating view over the water, and Atlantic View across the way keeps the dog happy while you fish. When you want a change, the wider area has rivers, harbours and coast within a short drive, with forest walks and farm trails on the 20 acres right here.
